Reduced Sexual Desire

Loss of sexual desire, is also known as hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD). Sexual desire can be because of a decrease in testosterone or Estrogen, which may make it more difficult to get aroused or lose interest in sexual activity. How ever low libido over a period of time can sometimes be an indicator of an underlying health condition.

A loss of libido during menopause is usually due to a decrease in hormonal levels. During and after menopause, hormone production decreases to very low levels. Which may decrease your sex drive. Women’s sexual desires naturally fluctuate over the years. What drives a women’s libido is a tender balance between physical and mental health as well as satisfaction with one’s self and personal relationships.

Because men do not go through a well-defined period referred to as menopause some doctors refer this problem as a decline in testosterone. Testosterone levels vary greatly among men. Testosterone levels gradually decline around 1% a year after the age of 30 on average. If testosterone levels are low, testosterone replacement therapy may also relive symptoms such as loss of interest in sex, depression and fatigue.

Few causes of low libido in Women and Men:

Men:

  • Low testosterone
  • Medications can lower testosterone levels (example Blood pressure medication such as ACE inhibitors and beta-blockers may prevent ejaculation and erections)
  • Depression: People who suffer with depression can reduce interest in activities they once found pleasurable including sex.
  • Chronic illness such as chronic pain, then sex can likely be the last priorities on your list.
  • Aging can have an effect on your libido
  • Stress may decrease your sexual desire.

Women:

  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Psychological issues may cause loss of libido.
  • Chronic illness such as chronic pain, then sex can likely be the last priorities on your list.
